The Elmira Pioneers make the most of 3 hits in 5-2 victory over the Newark Pilots

The Elmira Pioneers (1-0) and the Newark Pilots (0-1) both had scoring chances on Monday, but it was the Elmira Pioneers that were able to capitalize on them as they pulled out a 5-2 win at Dunn Field.

Andrew Sipowicz brought the heat against the Newark Pilots during his outing. Sipowicz gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out six during his five innings of work.

Solomon Bates pitched lights out for the Newark Pilots. The Elmira Pioneers managed just two hits off of Bates, who allowed two earned runs, walked six and struck out seven during his 6 2/3 innings of work.

Stephen Arnsten improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Elmira Pioneers. Arnsten struck out three, walked none and gave up no hits.

Bates (0-1) took the loss for the Newark Pilots.
