A magnificent effort by Luke Lucas spurred the Yorkton Cardinals (18-15) to an 8-1 win over the Fort McMurray Giants on Thursday at Shell Place.

Lucas got the win for the Yorkton Cardinals thanks to 11 strikeouts. Lucas allowed one earned run, six hits and two walks over nine innings.

The Yorkton Cardinals blew out the Fort McMurray Giants (11-25) thanks to 14 hits, including zero extra base hits. The Yorkton Cardinals scored three runs in the second on the Yorkton Cardinals scored in the second on an RBI single by Ben Schanding and a two-run triple by Caden Rosholt.

Luke Wilkinson racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Yorkton Cardinals. He singled in the third inning and homered in the fifth inning.

The Fort McMurray Giants were led by Michael Echavia's hitting. Echavia went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the second inning and singled in the ninth inning.

Nick Kafer was charged with his fourth loss of the year. He allowed six runs in five innings, walked two and struck out three.
