Four first-inning runs helped the West Virginia Miners (14-9) to a 7-3 win over the Danville Dans (13-10) at Danville Stadium on Thursday.

The West Virginia Miners scored in the first on a two-run double by Dan Ward, an RBI single by Tanner Levine, and a fielder's choice.

Ward racked up two RBIs on two hits for the West Virginia Miners.

The Danville Dans were led by a flawless day at the dish by Joey Fiske, who went 3-3 against the West Virginia Miners' pitching. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the fourth and sixth innings.

Michael Syrett recorded his third win of the year for the West Virginia Miners. He allowed three runs over six innings. Syrett struck out four, walked none and gave up 11 hits.

Grant Mayeaux (1-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just four innings, walked three, struck out two, and allowed five runs.
