A five-run explosion in the eighth inning carried the Pompano Beach Clippers (1-0) to a 9-2 win over the South Florida Huskies (0-4) at Cypress Park on Monday.
The Pompano Beach Clippers scored in the eighth on an RBI single by J.P. Sorma, a three-run double by Kyle Simon, and an RBI triple by Jake Zarrello.
Simon racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Pompano Beach Clippers.
Ken Tabor put together a nice outing. Tabor held the South Florida Huskies hitless over five innings, allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out seven.
Chase Salesky was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just six innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed three runs.
