The Southern Illinois Miners (36-17) beat the Washington Wild Things (27-24) 4-3 on Saturday at CONSOL Energy Park behind Aaron Gates, who went 2-5 and hit a home run.

Dan Ludwig got the win for the Southern Illinois Miners thanks to nine strikeouts. Ludwig allowed three earned runs, six hits and no walks over seven innings.

Chris Grayson had two extra-base hits for the Washington Wild Things. He homered in the first inning and doubled in the eighth inning.

Zac Grotz brought the heat against the Southern Illinois Miners during his outing. The Southern Illinois Miners managed just one hit off of the the Washington Wild Things' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his 1 2/3 innings of work.

Trevor Foss couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Washington Wild Things, taking a loss. He lasted just seven innings, walked one, struck out six, and allowed four runs.
