Early lead not enough for the Southern Illinois Miners, drop 10-5 decision to the Windy City ThunderBolts

Story by Narrative Science.

The Southern Illinois Miners (43-18) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 10-5 ballgame against the Windy City ThunderBolts (30-32) on Wednesday at Rent One Park, Marion, IL.

The Windy City ThunderBolts took the lead in the fifth inning on a groundout by Charley Thurber.

Coco Johnson racked up three RBIs on four hits for the Windy City ThunderBolts. He singled in the first, third, fourth, and fifth innings.

The Southern Illinois Miners couldn't get anything going so long as Jake Stolley was on the hill. The Southern Illinois Miners managed just two hits off of Stolley, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out six during his four innings of work.

Nick Palacios was effective even in defeat, mowing down five the Windy City ThunderBolts batters and allowing one run.

Dustin Batson ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked three, struck out none, and allowed five runs.
