The Evansville Otters (35-29) failed to take advantage of Chris Sweeney's effort at the plate on Wednesday, losing 9-5 to the Joliet Slammers (36-28) at Silver Cross Field.
Sweeney hit two home runs for the Evansville Otters. Sweeney went 3-4 in the game with four RBIs and two runs scored. Sweeney homered in the seventh and ninth innings.
Carter Bell racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Joliet Slammers. He singled in the third and fourth innings and homered in the seventh inning.
The Joliet Slammers got the win thanks in large part to Liam OSullivan's dominant, 10-strikeout performance. OSullivan allowed two earned runs on five hits and no walks over seven innings.
Hunter Ackerman was charged with his fourth loss of the year. He lasted just three innings, walked three, struck out none, and allowed five runs.
