The Normal CornBelters get key pinch-hit in 6-2 victory over the Washington Wild Things

Story by Narrative Science.

Casey Brown was cold coming off the bench, but Brown warmed up quickly as Brown stroked a key pinch-hit single in the seven to lead the Normal CornBelters (30-32) to a 6-2 win over the Washington Wild Things (30-30) on Wednesday at CONSOL Energy Park.

With the Normal CornBelters leading by one, Brown came to the plate and singled.

Santiago Chirino was hot from the plate for the Normal CornBelters. Chirino went 3-5, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first and third innings and doubled in the seventh inning.

The Normal CornBelters got the win thanks in large part to Charlie Gillies's dominant, 10-strikeout performance. Gillies allowed two earned runs, five hits and four walks over 6 2/3 innings.

Chris Grayson reached base four times in the game for the Washington Wild Things. He singled in the sixth and seventh innings.

Sam Agnew-Wieland couldn't get it done on the hill for the Washington Wild Things, taking a loss. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed three runs.
