Both the Joliet Slammers (36-28) and the River City Rascals (30-34) put runners aboard on Saturday, but it was the Joliet Slammers that were able to take advantage, pulling out a 5-4 win at Silver Cross Field.
The Joliet Slammers were led by Carter Bell's hitting. Bell went 3-5 and scored one run. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the third and fourth innings.
Marc Rutledge had an impressive outing against the River City Rascals' lineup. The River City Rascals managed just one hit off of Rutledge, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out none during his 2 2/3 innings of work.
The Joliet Slammers' lineup had no answer for Reese Gregory. The Joliet Slammers managed just two hits off of the the River City Rascals' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out none during his four innings of work.
Tim Koons was charged with his fifth loss of the year. He lasted just three innings, walked six, struck out none, and allowed five runs.
