An outstanding effort by Sean Townsley carried the Joliet Slammers (36-28) to a 2-1 win over the River City Rascals on Friday at Silver Cross Field.
Townsley kept the River City Rascals (30-34) off the board during his seven innings of work. Townsley allowed three hits, two walks and struck out seven.
Sikes Orvis racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Joliet Slammers. He homered in the seventh inning and singled in the ninth inning.
Despite the loss, the River City Rascals' Zeb Sneed dominated the Joliet Slammers' batters, giving up one run and striking out five.
Brent Choban improved to 4-6 on the year by picking up the win for the Joliet Slammers. Choban struck out none, walked one and gave up no hits.
Michael Gunn was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just zero innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed one run.
