Third-inning rally sparks blowout win for the Gateway Grizzlies, 10-2

A six-run explosion in the third inning lifted the Gateway Grizzlies (25-21) to a 10-2 win over the River City Rascals at GCS Ballpark on Sunday.

The Gateway Grizzlies scored in the third on a double by Ben Waldrip, an RBI single by Logan Davis, an error, a single by Seth Heck, , a sacrifice fly by Brandon Thomas, a sacrifice fly by Tyler Tewell, and a two-run single by Blake Brown.

Waldrip racked up four RBIs on three hits for the Gateway Grizzlies.

The River City Rascals (20-24) had no answer for Jordan Wellander, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Wellander gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out five during his three innings of work.

Kyle Gaedele was solid at the plate for the River City Rascals. Gaedele went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the sixth inning.

Jon Jones improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Gateway Grizzlies. He allowed two runs over six innings. Jones struck out three, walked one and gave up four hits.

Tim Koons (3-2) took the loss for the River City Rascals. He allowed eight runs in six innings, walked one and struck out five.
