Riley Mahan collected four hits as the Orleans Firebirds (1-0) took home a 9-4 victory over the Brewster Whitecaps (0-1) at Stony Brook on Friday.
He singled in the first, third, and fifth innings and doubled in the eighth inning.Sean Guenther put together a nice outing. The Brewster Whitecaps managed just two hits off of the the Orleans Firebirds' pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out four during his five innings of work.
Matt Davis was solid at the plate for the Brewster Whitecaps. Davis went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the first inning and singled in the eighth inning.
Chris Falwell (0-1) took the loss for the Brewster Whitecaps. He allowed seven runs in five innings, walked none and struck out four.
