Derek Slate collected three hits, sparking the Regina Red Sox (1-0) to a 5-3 victory over the Weyburn Beavers (0-1) on Sunday at Currie Field.

Ben Schweinfurth picked up the win for the Regina Red Sox. Schweinfurth allowed two earned runs, seven hits and no walks while striking out three over eight innings of work.

It was a good day at the plate for the Weyburn Beavers' Ethan Mushitz. Mushitz went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He doubled in the sixth inning and singled in the eighth and ninth innings.

Cole Feazell held the Regina Red Sox scoreless for six innings. Feazell allowed five hits, two walks and struck out three.

Austin Perez (0-1) took the loss for the Weyburn Beavers. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked two, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
