Ayers helps the Terre Haute Rex down the West Virginia Miners 9-6

The Terre Haute Rex (31-20) beat the West Virginia Miners (28-22) 9-6 on Wednesday at Linda K. Epling Stadium behind Chris Ayers, who went 2-3.

He singled in the first and second innings.

Ryan Cheek brought the heat against the West Virginia Miners during his outing. Cheek held the West Virginia Miners hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.

Dan Ward had a hot bat for the West Virginia Miners. Ward went 2-5, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the first and fifth innings.

Chris Metrick had an impressive outing against the Terre Haute Rex's lineup. The Terre Haute Rex managed just one hit off of the the West Virginia Miners' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during his 2 2/3 innings of work.

Matt Hasenbeck got his first win for the Terre Haute Rex despite allowing five runs over five innings. He struck out five, walked two and surrendered seven hits.

Clyde Yoder (3-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out two.
