The Lafayette Aviators (25-25) beat the Springfield Sliders (31-19) 6-3 on Tuesday at Loeb Stadium behind Evan Kennedy, who had two extra base hits.
He homered in the second inning and doubled in the sixth inning.The Springfield Sliders had no answer for Jason Sterrett, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Sterrett held the Springfield Sliders hitless over 2 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.
The Springfield Sliders were led by Nick Menken's hitting. Menken went 2-3 and drove in one. He singled in the third inning and doubled in the fifth inning.
Vinny Rotunno ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed six runs in five innings, walked two and struck out one.
