Both the Lafayette Aviators (20-17) and the West Virginia Miners (20-15) put runners aboard on Thursday, but it was the Lafayette Aviators that were able to take advantage, pulling out a 5-3 win at Loeb Stadium.

John Valente was solid at the plate for the Lafayette Aviators. Valente went 3-4 and scored two runs. He singled in the second, third, and seventh innings.

Anthony Ayala racked up two RBIs on three hits for the West Virginia Miners. He singled in the first, second, and sixth innings.

Andrew Denkinger improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Lafayette Aviators. Denkinger struck out none, walked two and gave up three hits.

Tyler Rowe (1-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked four, struck out three, and allowed five runs.
