The Quincy Gems (18-14) jumped on the Hannibal Cavemen (9-22) early on their way to a 9-4 win on Wednesday at Clemens Field, scoring three runs in the first inning.
The Quincy Gems scored in the first on a two-run home run by Mitch Carriger and an RBI single by Michael Nielsen.
Carriger racked up four RBIs on three hits for the Quincy Gems.
The Hannibal Cavemen had no answer for Elvin Ramos, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Ramos held the Hannibal Cavemen hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.
Kenny LaPierre improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Quincy Gems. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered one hit.
Tyus Adkins was charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just four innings, walked one, struck out four, and allowed five runs.
