The West Virginia Miners outlast the Butler BlueSox in high-scoring affair, 9-8

The bats were busy at Kelly Automotive Park on Tuesday, and when the dust cleared the West Virginia Miners (16-12) had a 9-8 win over the Butler BlueSox (14-15).

The teams totaled 20 hits in the game.

Dan Ward put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the West Virginia Miners. He homered in the first inning and doubled in the eighth inning.

The Butler BlueSox couldn't get anything going so long as Calvin Coker was on the hill. Coker held the Butler BlueSox hitless over 2 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one.

Russ Clark racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Butler BlueSox. He singled in the third and sixth innings.

Jamie Switalski (0-2) took the loss for the Butler BlueSox. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run.

The West Virginia Miners' Tanner Levine, Taylor Hillson and Ward combined for six hits and three RBIs.
