The Danville Dans get late runs to finish off the Springfield Sliders, 12-5

A five-run eighth inning sealed a 12-5 win for the Danville Dans (15-11) over the Springfield Sliders (14-13) on Saturday at Robin Roberts Field.

The Danville Dans scored in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Mason Irby, a double by Matt Fortin, a single by Josh Smith, a double by Joey Fiske, and a solo home run by Jeff Houghtby.

Houghtby racked up two RBIs on four hits for the Danville Dans.

Bryan Ayers handled the Springfield Sliders' lineup with ease, racking up nine strikeouts. Ayers allowed one earned run, five hits and one walk over six innings.

Despite the loss, the Springfield Sliders' Jose Marin dominated the Danville Dans' batters, giving up two runs and striking out five.

Brian Allec recorded his third win of the year for the Danville Dans. He allowed two runs over one inning. He struck out none, walked one and surrendered one hit.

Zach Moore (1-1) took the loss for the Springfield Sliders. He allowed eight runs in 1 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out none.
