Early boost from Vazquez helps the Joliet Slammers get past the Evansville Otters, 7-2

The Joliet Slammers (8-9) jumped on the Evansville Otters (10-7) early on their way to a 7-2 win on Tuesday at Bosse Field, scoring four runs in the first inning.

The Joliet Slammers scored in the first on a sacrifice fly by Boo Vazquez, a sacrifice fly by Marc Flores, an RBI single by Joe Staley, and an RBI single by Melvin Rodriguez.

Alfredo Rodriguez had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the first inning and homered in the fourth inning.

The Evansville Otters couldn't get anything going so long as Sean Townsley was on the hill. The Evansville Otters managed just two hits off of Townsley, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out two during his five innings of work.

Dylan Badura brought the heat against the Joliet Slammers during his outing. Badura gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during his four innings of work.

Derrick Penilla was charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out two.

Vazquez, Rodriguez and Carter Bell helped lead the Joliet Slammers. They combined for six hits and four RBIs.
