A walk-off single from Aaron Gates brought home the winning run for the Southern Illinois Miners (8-5) in a 5-4 victory over the Evansville Otters (8-6) at Rent One Park, Marion, IL on Saturday.

Gates was hot from the plate for the Southern Illinois Miners. Gates went 3-5 and drove in one. He singled in the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings.

Craig Massey put himself in scoring position with three extra-base hits for the Southern Illinois Miners. He homered in the third inning, singled in the sixth inning, and tripled in the ninth inning.

Chris Breen boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 3-3 day at the plate to pace the Evansville Otters. He doubled in the sixth inning and singled in the second and eighth innings.

Isaac Gil improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Southern Illinois Miners. He allowed one run over one inning. Gil struck out two, walked none and gave up two hits.

Brody Greer ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out two, and allowed one run.
