The Joliet Slammers (11-11)'s five first-inning runs built an early lead that helped bring home a 7-4 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums (7-13) on Sunday at Wuerfel Park.

The Joliet Slammers scored in the first on , a two-run double by Carter Bell, a groundout by Melvin Rodriguez, and a two-run single by Jake Gronsky.

Bell racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Joliet Slammers.

The Traverse City Beach Bums' lineup had no answer for Brent Choban. Choban held the Traverse City Beach Bums hitless over 1 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.

Matthew Burns had two extra-base hits for the Traverse City Beach Bums. He doubled in the fifth and sixth innings.

Spencer Medick improved to 3-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Joliet Slammers. He allowed four runs over five innings. Medick struck out three, walked two and gave up nine hits.

Michael Shreves was charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed seven runs in 5 2/3 innings, walked five and struck out two.
