A five-run explosion in the third inning spurred the Xenia Scouts (27-15) to a 7-1 win over the Licking County Settlers at Gradys Field on Sunday.
The Xenia Scouts scored in the third on an RBI single by Evan McDonald, a sacrifice fly by Colt Wolfe, an RBI single by Adrian Marquez, a two-run single by Caleb Bloye, and a double by Cary Holloway.
McDonald got on base three times in the game for the Xenia Scouts. He scored two runs and had one RBI.
The Xenia Scouts relied on Adrian Peraza to eat up innings en route to the win. Peraza allowed one earned run, seven hits and one walk while striking out two over seven innings of work.
Robert Emery was hot from the plate for the Licking County Settlers (23-19). Emery went 3-4 and drove in one. He singled in the second, fifth, and sixth innings.
JD Cozad ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed five runs.
