John Sharpe came off the bench and never even had to swing his bat as Sharpe reached on a stolen base in the five to lead the Xenia Scouts (24-12) to a 17-7 win over the Cincinnati Steam (19-16) on Saturday at McLeary Fld (Western Hills HS).

Cole Murphy did his best to prevent defeat.

Murphy racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Cincinnati Steam. He homered in the first inning and doubled in the second inning.

The Xenia Scouts had no answer for Murphy, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Murphy held the Xenia Scouts hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.

The Xenia Scouts blew out the Cincinnati Steam thanks to 15 hits, including zero extra base hits. The Xenia Scouts scored seven runs in the fifth on the Xenia Scouts scored in the fifth on an RBI single by Cary Holloway, a groundout by Ryan OHearn, a wild pitch, a two-run error, a two-run double by Colt Wolfe, and a two-run double by Wolfe.

Zach Hoffmann (0-1) took the loss for the Cincinnati Steam. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed five runs.

Holloway, Wolfe, Chandler Adkins and Adrian Marquez helped lead the Xenia Scouts. They combined for 11 hits and nine RBIs.
