An excellent effort by Sammy Stevens carried the Lake Erie Monarchs (15-20) to a 16-3 win over the Galion Graders (10-25) on Thursday at Flat Rock Field.
Stevens hit two home runs for the Lake Erie Monarchs. Stevens went 2-4 in the game with five RBIs and two runs scored. Stevens homered in the third and fourth innings.
The Lake Erie Monarchs continued to pile on the runs until the end of the game. The Lake Erie Monarchs scored five runs in the last three innings to finish off the blowout win. The Lake Erie Monarchs scored eight runs in the third on the Lake Erie Monarchs scored in the third on an RBI single by Blake Benefield, an RBI single by Ross Haffey, a three-run home run by Stevens, and a three-run double by Jimmy Kerr.
Jack Bredeson had an impressive outing against the Galion Graders' lineup. The Galion Graders managed just one hit off of the the Lake Erie Monarchs' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his two innings of work.
Chris Modrzynski recorded his second win of the year for the Lake Erie Monarchs. He allowed one run over five innings. Modrzynski struck out five, walked one and gave up five hits.
Mark Delas was charged with his fifth loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out two.
The Lake Erie Monarchs pounded the Galion Graders pitching, as six hitters combined for 13 hits, 16 RBIs and 11 runs scored.
