The Grand Lake Mariners (2-0) used a four-run explosion in the ninth inning to get past the Lorain County Ironmen (1-3) 11-3 on Wednesday at The Pipeyard.

Kyle Schimpf got a hit in each of his five at bats. He doubled in the third and eighth innings and singled in the first, sixth, and ninth innings.

Sam Traver pitched lights out for the Grand Lake Mariners. Traver held the Lorain County Ironmen hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

Luis Jimenez reached base three times in the game for the Lorain County Ironmen. He scored one run and had one RBI. He singled in the third and fourth innings.

Josh Armbruster ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just seven innings, walked two, struck out two, and allowed four runs.

Schimpf, Nikolas Zouras and Tyler Paulsen helped lead the Grand Lake Mariners. They combined for eight hits and four RBIs.
