Three first-inning runs helped the River City Rascals (36-32) to a 5-2 win over the Joliet Slammers (28-40) at T. R. Hughes Ballpark on Thursday.
The River City Rascals scored in the first on a two-run home run by Brian Hansen and an RBI double by Zach Kometani.
Hansen racked up two RBIs on one hit for the River City Rascals.
Tim Koons struck out eight hitters en route to the the River City Rascals win. Koons allowed two earned runs, five hits and four walks over seven innings.
Phillip Bates had two extra-base hits for the Joliet Slammers. He doubled in the third inning and homered in the fifth inning.
Michael Carden (2-5) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked four, struck out none, and allowed five runs.
