The San Leandro Ports failed to take advantage of Cody Kellar's effort at the plate on Tuesday, losing 14-8 to the Top Speed Baseball (22-5) at Drake High.
Kellar rocked the Top Speed Baseball with two home runs. Kellar went 3-5 in the game with five RBIs and two runs scored. Kellar homered in the eighth and ninth innings.
Both squads had things going at the plate, tallying 22 runs and 25 hits, including zero extra base hits. Managers of the two teams seemingly emptied their bullpens in search of the win, as there were eight pitchers used in the game.
Nine runs in the opening three innings allowed the Top Speed Baseball to easily put away the San Leandro Ports. A two-run home run by Steven Knudson and a solo home run by Matt Martinez in the first inning and a groundout by Vincent Rodriguez, an error, , an RBI single by Martinez, and a fielder's choice during the second inning helped the Top Speed Baseball put some runs on the board early.
Nick Rau racked up three RBIs on four hits for the Top Speed Baseball. He homered in the third inning and singled in the second, fourth, and sixth innings.
Matt Chavarria got the win, running his season record to 2-1. He allowed four runs over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out six, walked one and surrendered six hits.
Bennet Stehr (0-1) took the loss for the San Leandro Ports. He allowed 12 runs in five innings, walked seven and struck out three.
