After a long road trip, the Garden City Wind (13-38) returned to Clint Lightner Stadium and defeated the Trinidad Triggers (37-15) 6-2. The game was cut short and finished in the bottom of the fifth after a near two-hour rain delay.
Happy to be back on their home field, the Wind scored two in the first inning. Edgard Munoz, Albert Gonzalez and Chris Cruz singled to begin the game. Munoz was caught stealing, but Gonzalez and Cruz scored on a double to dead center by Tyler Lundgren.
They added two more runs in the second for the early 4-0 lead. Dylin Brooks led off the inning with a single to left center. He stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Munoz brought Brooks in with his second single of the game and moved to second on a Trigger error. Gonzalez sent Munoz home with a hard single up the left side.
Gabe Cook found himself in a jam in the fourth with the bases loaded. Two runs scored in the inning before he got out of it. A deep pop up to Brooks in center ended the inning.
To make up for the damage, Cook stepped up to the plate after Brooks hit an infield single to former teammate Shea Bell at third. With one swing of the bat, Cook sent the ball over the wall in right center for a two-run homer.
After a scoreless five-out fifth inning, the game went into a rain delay. Since the Wind had completed five defensive innings, the game was considered an official win for Garden City.
Cook (4-3) picked up another win after allowing just two runs off seven hits. He struck out four with three walks in his five innings.
Richie Anderson (4-3) was charged with the loss. He gave up six runs--one unearned--on 10 hits with six strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched.
