An ace performance by Michael Ormseth hoisted the Las Cruces Vaqueros (12-31) to a 4-1 win in 11 innings over the Alpine Cowboys (25-18) on Friday at Kokernot Field.
Ormseth baffled the Alpine Cowboys, striking out 13 batters. Ormseth allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks over eight innings.
Jake Taylor was hot from the plate for the Las Cruces Vaqueros. Taylor went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the fourth inning and homered in the ninth inning.
A bright spot for the Alpine Cowboys in the defeat was Ryan Rogers, who allowed only zero runs while striking out five.
Guadalupe Barrera recorded his first win of the year for the Las Cruces Vaqueros. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered two hits.
Mike Straub couldn't get it done on the hill for the Alpine Cowboys, taking a loss. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
