The White Sands Pupfish get late runs to finish off the Alpine Cowboys, 16-5

The White Sands Pupfish (14-9) shut the door early on the Alpine Cowboys (12-11), capturing a 16-5 victory on Thursday at Griggs Park.

The game was decided quickly as the White Sands Pupfish exerted their will early with seven runs in the first three innings.

An RBI single by Shamir Ubiera and a two-run home run by Wesley Wallace during the first inning and a two-run triple by Aaron Olivas and a two-run home run by William Dupont in the second inning supplied the early offense for the White Sands Pupfish.

Wallace got on base three times in the game for the White Sands Pupfish. He scored three runs and had two RBIs.

The Alpine Cowboys were led by Yuta Okazaki's hitting. Okazaki went 3-4 and drove in one. He tripled in the fourth inning and singled in the seventh and ninth innings.

David Gates pitched lights out for the Alpine Cowboys. Gates gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out none during his four innings of work.

Cameron Powers recorded his third win for the White Sands Pupfish even though he allowed five runs over nine innings. Powers struck out two, walked two and gave up nine hits.

Robert Silky (1-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in two innings, walked none and struck out three.

The White Sands Pupfish hammered the Alpine Cowboys pitching as eight hitters had a field day, combining for 14 hits, 15 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
