A superb effort by Kyano Cummings carried the Elmira Pioneers (28-15) to a 6-1 win over the Newark Pilots (16-26) on Thursday at Colburn Park.

Cummings got the win for the Elmira Pioneers thanks to eight strikeouts. Cummings allowed no earned runs on four hits and no walks over nine innings.

Justin Hayes was solid at the plate for the Elmira Pioneers. Hayes went 2-5, drove in one and scored one run. He tripled in the fifth innings and singled in the eighth inning.

A bright spot for the Newark Pilots in the defeat was Patrick Ryan, who allowed only three runs while striking out seven.

Ryan (2-4) took the loss for the Newark Pilots.
