Both the Elmira Pioneers (4-4) and the Utica Brewers (3-5) put runners aboard on Friday, but it was the Elmira Pioneers that were able to take advantage, pulling out a 5-3 win at Dunn Field.

Nate Matheson got the win for the Elmira Pioneers thanks to seven strikeouts. Matheson allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks over six innings.

The Utica Brewers were led by a flawless day at the dish by Zach Piazza, who went 2-2 against the Elmira Pioneers' pitching. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the eighth inning.

Chun-Hao Lo was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one-third of an inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed three runs.
