Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Sunday as the Elmira Pioneers (2-3) outscored the Newark Pilots (2-2) 10-8.
The teams totaled 24 hits in the game.
It was a good day at the plate for the Elmira Pioneers' Will LaRue. LaRue went 3-6, drove in one and scored three runs. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the fourth and eighth innings.
Ryan Bellomo pitched lights out for the Elmira Pioneers. Bellomo held the Newark Pilots hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Cody Wiktorski was hot from the plate for the Newark Pilots. Wiktorski went 4-5 and scored four runs. He doubled in the seventh inning and singled in the first, fifth, and ninth innings.
Even though Tristian Widra allowed five runs over five innings he still recorded the victory, his first of the season. Widra struck out two, walked two and gave up six hits.
Will Nichol (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in 3 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out one.
