Brad Pluschkell had two extra base hits, helping the Humboldt Crabs to a 7-2 victory over the Alameda Merchants (14-12) on Wednesday at Arcata Ballpark.
He homered in the fourth inning and doubled in the seventh inning.The Humboldt Crabs got the win thanks in large part to Andy Burschinger's dominant, eight-strikeout performance. Burschinger allowed one earned run, seven hits and no walks over nine innings.
Brian Poupore paced the Alameda Merchants at the plate. Poupore went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the fourth inning and tripled in the eighth inning.
Willie Traynor pitched lights out for the Alameda Merchants. Traynor held the Humboldt Crabs hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one.
Evan Brisentine couldn't get it done on the hill for the Alameda Merchants, taking a loss. He lasted just four innings, walked three, struck out two, and allowed five runs.
Pluschkell, Ryan Dobson and Allen Smoot helped lead the Humboldt Crabs. They combined for six hits and four RBIs.
