Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Sunday as the Neptune Beach Pearl outscored the South Bay Storm (1-1) 12-9.
The two teams combined for 23 hits in the game.
Nolan Bumstead put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Neptune Beach Pearl. He doubled in the first and third innings.
The South Bay Storm couldn't get anything going as long as Evan Rutter was pitching. Rutter held the South Bay Storm hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.
Garret Kelly racked up two RBIs on two hits for the South Bay Storm. He singled in the fifth and sixth innings.
Even though Tanner Buxton allowed five runs over five innings he still recorded the victory, his first of the season. He struck out nine, walked four and surrendered four hits.
Ross Slaney ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed 10 runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked four and struck out one.
Patrick Massoni, Matt Miller and Bumstead helped lead the Neptune Beach Pearl. They combined for seven hits and six RBIs.
