An outstanding effort by Chris Weiss carried the Marthas Vineyard Sharks (25-17) to a 17-7 win over the Nashua Silver Knights (21-22) on Sunday at Vineyard Baseball Park.
Weiss got the win for the Marthas Vineyard Sharks thanks to nine strikeouts. The Marthas Vineyard Sharks' pitcher tossed eight innings of shutout ball and allowed only five hits.
Ten runs in the opening three innings allowed the Marthas Vineyard Sharks to easily put away the Nashua Silver Knights. A three-run home run by Jon Mayer during the first inning and an RBI double by Brian Campbell in the second inning supplied the early offense for the Marthas Vineyard Sharks.
Domenic De Renzo racked up five RBIs on four hits for the Marthas Vineyard Sharks. He singled in the third, fourth, and fifth innings and homered in the sixth inning.
Joe McCarthy was charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out two.
