Early lead not enough for the Traverse City Beach Bums, drop 3-1 decision to the Southern Illinois Miners

The Traverse City Beach Bums (52-36) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 3-1 ballgame against the Southern Illinois Miners (61-29) on Sunday at Rent One Park, Marion, IL.

A two-run home run by Steve Marino gave the Southern Illinois Miners the lead in the ninth inning.

Marino had two extra-base hits for the Southern Illinois Miners. He doubled in the fifth inning, singled in the seventh inning, and homered in the ninth inning.

Rick Teasley allowed one earned run, six hits and two walks while striking out five over eight innings of work.

It was a good day at the plate for the Traverse City Beach Bums' Willi Ramos. Ramos went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the third inning.

Evan Mott got the win, running his season record to 4-1. Mott struck out two, walked none and gave up no hits.

Chuck Ghysels ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed two runs.

The Southern Illinois Miners were sparked by Niko Vasquez and Marino, who teamed up for five hits and three RBIs.
