Phillip Bates went 2-4, sparking the Joliet Slammers (37-49) to a 7-3 victory over the Schaumburg Boomers (35-51) on Wednesday at Silver Cross Field.
He singled in the first and third innings.Andrew Strenge struck out seven hitters en route to the the Joliet Slammers win. Strenge allowed two earned runs on six hits and one walk over seven innings.
Kagen Hopkins was effective even in defeat, mowing down six the Joliet Slammers batters and allowing one run.
Michael Valadez had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the fifth inning and homered in the seventh inning.
Peter Gehle couldn't get it done on the bump for the Schaumburg Boomers, taking a loss. He lasted just three innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed five runs.
