Sanchez helps the Lake Erie Crushers down the Washington Wild Things 9-5

The Lake Erie Crushers (23-30) beat the Washington Wild Things (24-32) 9-5 on Wednesday at CONSOL Energy Park behind Juan Sanchez, who had two extra base hits.

He tripled in the first and eighth innings.

The Washington Wild Things had no answer for Mike Devine, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Washington Wild Things managed just two hits off of Devine, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his two innings of work.

Steve Messner was effective even in defeat, mowing down five the Lake Erie Crushers batters and allowing zero runs.

Matt Ford was hot from the plate for the Washington Wild Things. Ford went 3-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the second and fourth innings and doubled in the sixth inning.

Zach Morton improved to 3-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Lake Erie Crushers. He allowed four runs over five innings. He struck out six, walked two and surrendered seven hits.

Richie Mirowski was charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed six runs in three innings, walked none and struck out six.

The Lake Erie Crushers were sparked by Jose Barraza and Sanchez, who teamed up for six hits and three RBIs.
