Early lead not enough for the Joliet Slammers, drop 2-1 decision to the Washington Wild Things

The Joliet Slammers (19-25) built an early edge on Saturday, but the Washington Wild Things (19-25) roared back to steal a 2-1 victory at CONSOL Energy Park.

While the Joliet Slammers led until the sixth inning, the Washington Wild Things worked their way back and took the lead on a solo home run by Maxx Garrett.

Garrett went a perfect 2-2 at the dish for the Washington Wild Things. He singled in the fourth inning and homered in the sixth inning.

The Joliet Slammers couldn't get anything going so long as Matt Sergey was on the hill. The Joliet Slammers managed just one hit off of Sergey, who allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out six during his five innings of work.

Steve Messner got the win, running his season record to 1-1. He struck out none, walked none and surrendered no hits.

Kevin McNorton (3-2) took the loss for the Joliet Slammers. He lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run.
