Aaron Gates went 2-3, sparking the Southern Illinois Miners (24-14) to a 2-1 victory over the Washington Wild Things (14-24) on Saturday at Rent One Park, Marion, IL.

Jon Klein picked up the win for the Southern Illinois Miners. Klein allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings of work.

Matt Peters got a hit in each of his two at bats. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the fifth inning.

Tyler Ferguson pitched lights out for the Washington Wild Things. Ferguson held the Southern Illinois Miners hitless over 2 2/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out one.

Tim Giel ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed one run.
