Smithwick leads the Alameda Merchants to 18-8 win over the Nevada Big Horns

Sunday was a great day for Matt Smithwick, as he clubbed two home runs to carry the Alameda Merchants (11-10) to an 18-8 victory over the Nevada Big Horns (8-12) at College of Alameda.

Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 26 total runs and 34 hits during the game. Managers of the two teams seemingly emptied their bullpens in search of the win, as there were 11 pitchers used in the game.

The Alameda Merchants continued to pile on the runs until the end of the game. The Alameda Merchants scored four runs in the last three innings to finish off the blowout win. Michael Mendoza couldn't get it done on the bump for the Nevada Big Horns, taking a loss. He allowed six runs in three innings, walked none and struck out none.

The Alameda Merchants easily handled the Nevada Big Horns pitching as six hitters combined for 13 hits, 13 RBIs and eight runs scored.
