The Alameda Merchants (7-10) jumped on the Nevada Big Horns (8-10) early on their way to a 5-3 win on Saturday at College of Alameda in seven innings, scoring three runs in the first inning.

The Alameda Merchants scored in the first on a two-run single by Brian Poupore and an RBI single by Matt Smithwick.

Tyler Rathjen improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Alameda Merchants. He allowed one run over two innings. Rathjen struck out four, walked two and gave up one hit.

Zachary Muenster couldn't get it done on the bump for the Nevada Big Horns, taking a loss. He lasted just four innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed four runs.
