The Richmond RiverRats (21-33) and the West Virginia Miners (32-24) both had scoring chances on Sunday, but it was the Richmond RiverRats that were able to capitalize on them as they pulled out an 8-5 win at Linda K. Epling Stadium.
Brian Hakes had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He singled in the first and third innings and doubled in the fifth and ninth innings.
Riley Futterknecht picked up the win for the Richmond RiverRats. Futterknecht allowed one earned run, seven hits and one walk while striking out two over seven innings of work.
Dan Ward racked up three RBIs on two hits for the West Virginia Miners. He singled in the sixth inning and homered in the eighth inning.
Lyndale Morley was charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in four innings, walked five and struck out two.
Troy Paris, Hakes and Jeff Kammer helped lead the Richmond RiverRats. They combined for six hits and three RBIs.
