A seven-run explosion in the sixth inning carried the Butler BlueSox (28-25) to an 11-1 win over the Richmond RiverRats at McBride Stadium on Thursday.
The Butler BlueSox scored in the sixth on a two-run single by Matt Hansen, an RBI home run by David Marcus, a two-run home run by Marcus, an RBI single by Jared Grove, and a groundout by Russell Clark.
Joba Ferrell did his best to prevent defeat.
Ferrell reached base two times. He doubled in the fifth inning.
Ferrell brought the heat against the Butler BlueSox during his outing. The Butler BlueSox managed just one hit off of Ferrell, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during his two innings of work.
Marcus went a perfect 4-4 at the dish for the Butler BlueSox.
Connor Coward racked up seven strikeouts in the the Butler BlueSox win. Coward allowed no earned runs on four hits and two walks over six innings.
Cory Craig ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He allowed nine runs in 5 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out two.
