A great day by Connor Coward wasn't enough to carry the Butler BlueSox (25-23) to a win on Saturday, as the Butler BlueSox fell to the West Virginia Miners (28-19) 3-2 at Kelly Auto Park.
Coward baffled the West Virginia Miners, striking out 10 batters. Coward allowed no earned runs, three hits and two walks over seven innings.
The Butler BlueSox were ahead early but they ultimately surrendered the lead for good. The Butler BlueSox led until the ninth inning, but the West Virginia Miners took the lead back on an RBI single by Hunter Vansau.
Calvin Coker improved to 2-1 on the year by picking up the win for the West Virginia Miners. Coker struck out none, walked none and gave up two hits.
Zach Spangler was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just one inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
