Early lead not enough for the Springfield Sliders, drop 4-3 decision to the Quincy Gems

The Springfield Sliders (7-10) built an early edge on Wednesday, but the Quincy Gems (9-10) roared back to steal a 4-3 victory at Quincy Stadium.

The Quincy Gems took the lead in the thirteenth inning on an RBI single by Justin Wylie.

Anthony Villa led the Quincy Gems' offensive threat, as he got on base four times in the game. He also drove in two runners. He singled in the sixth inning and doubled in the eighth inning.

The Springfield Sliders couldn't get anything going as long as Elvin Ramos was pitching. The Springfield Sliders managed just three hits off of the the Quincy Gems' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his four innings of work.

Lane Hanzel got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered no hits.

Avery Brandon couldn't get it done on the rubber for the Springfield Sliders, taking a loss. He lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed one run.
