A five-run explosion in the fourth inning spurred the Kokomo Jackrabbits (7-8) to a 9-3 win over the Quincy Gems (6-10) at Kokomo Municipal Stadium on Sunday.
The Kokomo Jackrabbits scored in the fourth on a two-run single by CJ Price, a two-run double by Chris Amato, a triple by Mark Zimmerman, and a single by Milo Freeman.
Zimmerman had two extra-base hits for the Kokomo Jackrabbits.
Anthony Villa reached base three times in the game for the Quincy Gems. He also drove in one runner. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the eighth inning.
Jarrett Bednar improved to 3-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Kokomo Jackrabbits. He allowed one run over five innings. Bednar struck out four, walked none and gave up six hits.
Joseph Mercado ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed eight runs in three innings, walked three and struck out one.
Sal Taormina, Zimmerman, Amato and Chris Folinusz helped lead the Kokomo Jackrabbits. They combined for seven hits and seven RBIs.
