The Champion City Kings (1-0) beat the Butler BlueSox (0-2) 8-3 on Thursday at Kelly Auto Park behind Lee Sponseller, who collected three hits.

The Butler BlueSox had no answer for Eric Ashbrook, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Ashbrook held the Butler BlueSox hitless over 4 2/3 innings, allowed two earned runs, walked six and struck out six.

David Lemasters got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed one run over 3 1/3 innings. He struck out three, walked two and surrendered one hit.

Josh LaPiana was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked one, struck out five, and allowed four runs.
